We have demonstrated an unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV)-borne photon-counting bathymetric Lidar based on a fiberlaser- pumped green laser. The green laser was capable of producing 1.1 W pulses with widths of 280 ps at 500 kHz and bandwidths of 0.04 nm centered at 532.05 nm, located within the transparent window of water. The photon-counting bathymetric Lidar was constructed with this green laser served as the transmitter and a photon-multiple-tubes as the detector in a coaxial transceiver structure. The UAV-borne experiments were carried out at the coast of Shimei Bay at Hainan Province, China in daytime. The filtered point cloud shown that the maximum detectable water depth was about 8 m, two times as much as the Secchi depth, indicating its capability for practical Lidar bathymetry.
