Abstract
Joint transform correlator [1] (JTC), using spatial light modulators (SLMs) for the display of the input plane and the joint transform (JT) plane, provides real-time correlation capabilities for optical pattern recognition. Display of the JT plane on a binary SLM, requires binarization of the joint power spectrum function. Means for improving the JTC performance are presented, where the joint power spectrum function is modified prior to an error-diffusion binarization stage, when colored (non-white) noise is present in the input scene. Mathematical analysis, computer simulations and experimental results are presented.
