Abstract
The thermally induced depolarization of a zig-zag slab geometry Nd:YAG crystal with dimensions 6 X 27 X 202 mm3 uniformly pumped in a cavity was measured under different pumping power levels. Analysis of results with the calculation by an expression developed from argument and from the results of numerical model are presented. The deformed He-Ne beam spot passed through the pumped slab showing the deformed slab cross section and end effect resulting in the thermally induced depolarization are obtained. The depolarization in our case has resulted substantially from ends effect.
