Abstract
Some commercially available lasers emit light beams of large spectral bandwidths. As a consequence, the quasi- monochromatic approximation to the laser beam propagation does not hold well for them. A polychromatic model of the beam propagation has to be sued for a better description of the beam properties. In this paper we study the correction of the longitudinal chromatic aberration of polychromatic laser beams by using a model that regards the beam as a co- axial non-coherent superposition of monochromatic stationary TEM00 beams emitted by a dispersive active resonator. Chromatic aberrations are described by dependencies of the waist position and of the Rayleigh range on wavelength. It is shown that a set of plane-parallel plates placed perpendicularly to the beam allows correcting the longitudinal chromatic aberration. It reduces the beam waist and makes the beam propagation facto to approach to unity. The plates do not change the far-field divergence and the near-field and far-field values of the kurtosis parameter.
