Abstract
The past few chapters have described the many applications of fiber optics in fixed
telecommunication systems. Fibers also are used in a variety of mobile systems for civilian and military systems. Fiber cables can be used for remote control of robotic vehicles and guidance of tactical missiles. Fiber cables also are used inside vehicles ranging from battleships to private automobiles. This chapter briefly surveys these diverse applications, explaining how and why fibers are used.
