The problems involved when using a converter with a capacitor at the output as a LDD (Fig. 6.1), and the solution to these challenges, i.e., using an inductor in series with the converter output, were discussed in Chapter 6. The topology with the inductor at the output makes it one of the best options for a LD driver. Figure 7.1 depicts a schematic of the LDD. The output filter inductor Lf filters the rectified current ripple and provides a high-dynamic-output impedance, whereas the ballasting inductor Lb provides a high-static-output impedance.
