Profile Summary

I directed my career towards scientific instrumentation after a first experience in automotive industry and illumination systems.
In the frame of EUV lithography for the french optics manufacturer SAGEM/REOSC, I initiated a program on a demonstrator for the metrology of diffraction-limited, 13 nm all-reflective optics.
I joined ESO in 2002, and since then I specialized in the field of adaptive optics instrumentation, paricipating in the programs MACAO for the VLTI, CRIRES and SINFONI instruments, and leading GRAAL, the AOF program for the Hawk-I wide-field infra-red imager, a Ground layer adaptive optics using 4 Laser guide-star wave-front sensors for controlling a deformable secondary mirror at 1kHz. I prepared and followed-up as well some prospective studies for the future extremely large european telescope (E-ELT), more precisely for its Laser-tomography AO modules (ATLAS).

I designed and used instrumentation sub-assemblies, coordinated the work of a compact team, led some medium contracts with industry, and interfaced with scientific consortia. I participated in numerous instrument commissioning activities and led one of them.

My main field of expertise is on systems: how to clearly split a top-level requirement between components/fields, how to maintain the consistency between the different parts of a design, how to assemble the parts of a project efficiently, reach and maintain the performance required, and expand the capabilities of a system beyond what was initially foreseen.
