Abstract
Polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) is an emerging biomedical imaging technology using polarized light. To describe the imaging priciple of PS-OCT, we develop a Monte Carlo model for polarized light propagating through a multiple layered birefrigent medium. The simulation uses Stokes formalism, which completely characterizes the optical polarization properties of biological tissue. In this paper, we described the procedure and algorithm of our Monte Carlo simulation in detail and discussed the difference of using Henyey-Greenstein function and Mie theory calculating the azimuthal angles which are essential for simulation. We investigated a model of biological tissue with each layer having a different birefringence. The oscillations of Stokes vector verified the correction of our simulation.
