SC628: IR Threat Detection Systems
This short course provides an overview of the role that IR Search and Alerting systems (IRSA) may give in the protection of military and non-military platforms. All system aspects including the definition of the threat and associated scenarios, requirements, target signatures, background- and atmospheric (including spectral) effects, sources of false alarm, sensor design, signal processing, range performance, test and evaluation, situational awareness, coupling with candidate weapon and countermeasure systems, survivability and kill assessment will be discussed. The applications include the defense of tanks, helicopters and ships as they are used in peace keeping and peace-enforcing operations. The threat includes small arms weapons, rocket propelled grenades, missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, small surface targets, operating in complex (including littoral) backgrounds.
